New Adaptive Technology For Visually Impaired People

There is new adaptive technology for visually impaired people to help them communicate more easily and conveniently. Cell phones are a big part of everyone's lives, but for the visually impaired, it can be difficult to function on the same level of convenience. For example, technology is advancing, but as it does so, gadgets and equipment is getting smaller and smaller. With smaller technology, those that are visually impaired will have a difficult time using the phone and will spend more time getting frustrated at them than they can spend talking to friends and family.

There are visually impaired aids available to help them not only to see the phone better, but all of the features have been made into adaptive technology for visually impaired people. That being said, the features on the cell phone have been changed and altered to better serve those that are hard of sight. The biggest adaptation is the larger buttons on the phone. Not only are they easier to see and feel (because they pop out on the phone), but they are programmable so you can easily call someone with the simple touch of a button. This makes it easier to make calls, especially since it might be difficult to see the menu or know what the person's number is.

As far as the screen, this is a big part of adaptive technology for visually impaired people. The screen itself is larger. So as a person is dialing a number or scrolling through the menu, everything is larger making easier to see. Secondly, the screen is brighter. With a brighter backlight, the numbers and menus are illuminated to a bigger degree, also making it easier to see. Finally, the menu is simplified. This means that there are fewer symbols on the screen and more space for numbers, etc. All of the adaptive technology for visually impaired people make it possible for them to stay in contact with the world.
